District 202 and its Bilingual Parents Advisory Committee are hosting its inaugural Celebration of Cultures from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, in the main gymnasium at Plainfield High School-Central Campus, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, Plainfield.
The free event will feature District 202 parent and staff-run booths celebrating different cultures through food, art, music, clothing, performances, and interactive displays.
Individual school cultural events inspired the idea for the district-wide celebration, said Cindy Castanon, Director of Multilingual Education at District 202.
This central event will highlight the district’s cultural richness and diversity for the community, she said.
“The Celebration of Cultures reflects our commitment to valuing students and families of all backgrounds,” Castanon said.
“By sharing our unique gifts, we broaden perspectives and cultivate a learning environment that prepares students to shape the world.”
Countries scheduled to be represented include Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Thailand, Mexico, India, Pakistan, South Korea, Jordan, Spain, Ukraine, Mongolia, and the Marshall Islands.
Performances include a Ukrainian dance group, Creekside Choir, and the Korean Pop Club, plus other student acts.
Please park on the west side of the parking lot and enter by Door G.
